The Teamsters Union supports the Trudeau government’s plan to offer 10 days of paid sick leave to all workers in federally regulated sectors.
By amending the Labour Code, Bill C-3 would extend paid sick leave to workers from both the public and private sectors.
Teamsters Canada and its local unions represent tens of thousands of workers under federal jurisdiction, including professional drivers, parcel delivery workers and other employees who work for rail companies, airlines or airports.
These women and men have kept the economy and the supply chain running throughout the pandemic, protecting the health and well-being of all Canadians.
“I applaud this initiative by the federal government because it recognizes the essential nature of the work of these employees,” said François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada. “These women and men have worked tirelessly for their communities and they fully deserve to be protected and recognized.”
The Teamsters also urge all federal political parties to pass this Bill as soon as possible.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada. They are affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has 1.4 million members in North America.
